How I Build and Manage Websites in 2026

WordPress used to be the default. Now the modern website stack is Astro, Cloudflare Pages, Markdown, AI agents, and custom tools without plugin bloat.

Used to be WordPress.

Slow projects. Clunky builds. Plugin bloat. Security holes I had to patch every other week.

Now I build with Astro. Hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Updated by AI agents.

Here’s the stack:

  • Astro framework → AI-friendly to build, ships pure HTML, fast by default
  • Markdown blogging → write in plain text, no clunky editor (add a headless CMS only if a client needs one)
  • Cloudflare Pages hosting → secure, global, loads in milliseconds
  • AI agents for updates → push changes through a chat app, in plain English
  • Technical SEO → handled by an agent, no developer needed
  • SEO audits + keyword research → pulled live via API tools
  • Content plans → built by AI, refined by a human
  • AEO optimisation → answer engines find the site without me lifting a finger
  • Scheduled, scaled content → posted on autopilot
  • Custom lead magnets → assessments, calculators, tools built into the site (no plugins, no risk)

Same great design. Faster builds. Lower costs. Zero plugin bloat.

The website used to be a project.

Now it’s a system.
